Job description

The Commercial Analyst and Business Partner helps the business make better, faster and more commercially informed decisions. Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the role combines analysis, performance reporting and commercial insight with hands-on support for leaders and managers across the organisation.

The postholder will turn commercial and operational data into clear conclusions, challenge assumptions constructively and help teams understand the commercial impact of their decisions. This is a developing business-partnering role: it requires strong analytical foundations, curiosity and credibility, with support to grow influence, commercial judgement and ownership over time.

Job requirements

Analyse commercial performance

Analyse revenue, pricing, customer, product, sector and channel performance to identify trends, risks and opportunities. Turn commercial and operational data into clear conclusions about what happened, why it happened and what is likely to happen next.

Support commercial decisions

Provide robust analysis and clear recommendations for business cases, customer proposals and other commercial decisions. Assess the impact of changes in volume, price, mix, cost to serve, capacity, payback and key assumptions so that decision makers understand the opportunities and risks.

Partner with the business

Work closely with sales, operations and central functions to understand performance, priorities and the commercial consequences of decisions. Attend relevant business reviews and planning meetings, bringing evidence, constructive challenge and follow through rather than simply reporting numbers.

Produce reporting and insight

Prepare accurate and focused performance reports, dashboards and commentary covering commercial and relevant operational indicators. Maintain consistent measures and definitions, respond proportionately to ad hoc analysis requests and clearly set out the action required.

Pricing and Commercial Analysis
Support pricing reviews, tender decisions and customer proposals with fact-based analysis and agreed approval processes. Track the results of pricing and commercial initiatives, identify lessons and help teams apply consistent assumptions in future decisions.

Customer and Contract Profitability
Analyse customer and contract profitability, discounts, leakage, retention and cost to serve to identify where value is created or lost. Highlight areas requiring action and work with stakeholders to convert opportunities into measurable improvements.

Maintain reliable commercial data

Reconcile and validate information from commercial, CRM and operational systems before it is used for decision making. Identify weaknesses in data, reporting or process controls, work with owners to address the root causes and promote consistent use of source systems.

Reporting and Process Improvement

Simplify and automate recurring analysis and reporting where practical, maintaining clear documentation and version control. Balance urgency, accuracy and business value while handling commercially sensitive information appropriately and reducing reliance on manual activity over time.
