Job description

The Service Centre Operative will join an established Service Centre team operating in a fast-paced environment, supporting the preparation, handling and readiness of the company's Tower fleet and associated equipment.

The primary purpose of the role is to process assets returning from hire and assist in preparing them for their next deployment. This includes asset preparation, battery management and asset control, movement of parts and goods and general Service Centre support.

The post holder will report to the Service Centre Team Lead and work alongside the Service Centre Technical operative providing practical support with returned assets and assisting with the preparation and commissioning of new machines when required This is an entry-level operational role and does not require previous technical or engineering experience. Training and appropriate instruction will be provided for duties within the role.

Job requirements

Key Responsibilities

Asset Return & Preparation

· Assist with receiving and processing assets returning from hire.

· Prepare returned machines for inspection, maintenance, repair.

· Clean and prepare assets to the required company standard.

· Carry out basic visual checks and identify obvious damage, missing items or defects.

· Report identified damage, defects or missing components to the Service Centre Technical Operative

· Assist with moving assets through the Service Centre during the return, repair and readiness process.

· Assist with the preparation and commissioning of new machines when required, under appropriate direction.

Battery Management

· Check that serviceable batteries are adequately charged and available for use.

· Place batteries on charge in accordance with company procedures and instructions.

· Safely handle and store batteries within designated areas.

· Prepare batteries for return to suppliers when required, including securing and palletising them appropriately.

· Identify and report damaged or unsuitable batteries to the Service Centre Team Lead.

· Maintain orderly battery storage areas.

Parts, Goods & Deliveries

· Lead or undertake the collection and delivery of parts, materials and goods as required by the Service Centre.

· Receive deliveries and check goods against relevant documentation where required.

· Move parts, materials and equipment safely around the Service Centre.

· Ensure delivered parts and materials are stored in the correct location.

· Support the Service Centre team with the movement of equipment

Stock & Asset Control

· Assist with regular stocktakes, asset counts and inventory checks.

· Report stock discrepancies, missing items or incorrect quantities to the appropriate person.

· Assist with maintaining accurate asset and stock locations.

· Ensure parts, equipment and materials are returned to their designated storage locations.

Support - Service Centre Technical Operative

· Provide practical support to the Service Centre Technical Operative with returned-from-hire machines.

· Assist with the preparation and movement of machines requiring inspection, repair or maintenance.

· Undertake practical tasks as instructed and within the individual's level of training and competence.

· Support the Technical Operative with the efficient flow of machines through the Service Centre.

Service Centre Housekeeping & General Duties

· Maintain clean, tidy and organised workshop, storage and external Service Centre areas.

· Keep work areas, equipment and storage locations safe and accessible.

· Dispose of waste and packaging in accordance with company procedures.

· Ensure tools and equipment are returned to their designated locations after use.

· Support other reasonable Service Centre duties necessary to maintain an efficient operation.

Reporting & Working Relationships

The role reports to the Service Centre Team Lead.

The post holder will work closely with the Service Centre Technical Operative, providing practical and operational support to the technical function. The Technical Operative will provide direction and instruction on relevant asset preparation, maintenance and repair activities.

The role will also work with other Service Centre, Planning, Logistics, Supply Chain and operational colleagues as required.

Experience & Requirements

· No previous technical or engineering experience is required.

· Basic computer skills and confidence using standard computer packages

· A willingness to learn and develop practical skills.

· Reliable and willing to work as part of an established team.

· Able to follow instructions, procedures and safe working practices.

· Good attention to detail when handling and preparing company assets.

· Physically able to undertake the practical duties associated with the role, including moving equipment and materials safely.

· Able to identify and report obvious damage, defects or issues.

· Full UK driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points.

· Willingness to undertake general Service Centre duties as required.

Desirable

· Current forklift truck licence.

· Previous experience in a warehouse, workshop, logistics, equipment rental or similar operational environment.

· Previous experience handling equipment, stock or deliveries.

Health & Safety

The post holder is responsible for working safely and in accordance with company procedures and instructions. The post holder must only undertake tasks for which they have received appropriate instruction, training and authorisation. Any technical issue, damage, defect or work outside their level of competence must be reported to the Service Centre Technical Lead or Service Centre Lead.
