As a System Administrator, you and your colleagues will be responsible for the availability, security and ongoing development of our central IT infrastructure.
Job description
Are you an experienced System Administrator who enjoys working in an international IT environment where continuity, security and ongoing improvement are key priorities? Then we are looking for you.
Based in Apeldoorn, BauWatch Group’s IT team manages the central IT infrastructure for our organisation across several European countries. Our infrastructure team currently consists of three System Administrators, and we are looking for a new colleague to strengthen the team.
Over the past few years, our environment has grown significantly and become increasingly professionalised. A key part of this is our private cloud environment, spread across two data centres in the Netherlands. We also use various cloud solutions and support the IT infrastructure required for our international organisation and security services.
For parts of our infrastructure, we work with specialised external partners. As a result, your role involves more than managing and improving systems yourself. You will also monitor service delivery, assess technical proposals, and coordinate changes and escalations.
What will you do?
As a System Administrator, you and your colleagues will be responsible for the availability, security and ongoing development of our central IT infrastructure.
Your responsibilities will include:
Managing, monitoring and improving our private cloud environment.
Managing our Windows and Linux server environments and the associated infrastructure.
Managing and further developing our Microsoft 365, Entra ID and Intune environments.
Managing and supporting virtualisation, backup, monitoring and networking solutions.
Analysing and resolving complex technical incidents and recurring issues.
Implementing and coordinating infrastructure changes.
Monitoring capacity, performance, availability and continuity.
Working with external managed services and infrastructure partners, ensuring that agreed services and changes are delivered correctly.
Acting as the technical point of contact for escalations involving external suppliers.
Contributing to disaster recovery, backup and restore, and business continuity initiatives.
Implementing infrastructure and security improvements.
Participating in projects involving infrastructure, networking, data centres, cloud and security.
Supporting the IT Support Desk with more complex technical issues and escalations.
Documenting infrastructure, configurations, procedures and technical decisions.
You will not need to manage every component of our infrastructure yourself, down to the lowest technical level. We work with specialised partners for certain areas. However, we expect you to have sufficient technical knowledge to assess their work, ask the right questions, and work with them to resolve incidents, implement changes and deliver improvements successfully.
Job requirements
You are technically curious and enjoy understanding why something works — or why it does not. You are independent enough to investigate and resolve problems yourself, while also knowing when to involve colleagues or external specialists.
In addition:
You have a higher professional education (HBO) level of working and thinking.
You have several years of experience as a System Administrator, Infrastructure Engineer or in a similar role.
You have solid knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server and Microsoft 365.
You have experience with Entra ID/Azure AD and preferably Intune as well.
You have experience with virtualisation environments, such as VMware.
You have advanced networking knowledge, including VLANs, routing, firewalls, DNS and DHCP.
You have experience with backup, monitoring and disaster recovery solutions.
You have an interest in IT security.
You can independently analyse technical incidents and coordinate suppliers when necessary.
You have experience working with external IT and managed services partners.
You work in a structured manner and value good documentation.
You have strong communication skills in both Dutch and English.
Experience with Linux, Azure, Veeam, enterprise networking or similar technologies is an advantage.
More important than knowing every product in our environment is your ability to understand infrastructure, connect the dots and quickly familiarise yourself with new technologies.
What will your role within the team look like?
You will join a team of three other System Administrators. Responsibilities and areas of expertise are shared within the team, but we believe it is important that colleagues can support and cover for one another.
We are therefore looking for someone with a broad infrastructure background who also brings, or is keen to develop, deeper expertise in one or more areas.
You will work closely with colleagues in IT Support, Security, Application Management and other IT disciplines. As BauWatch operates internationally, you will also regularly collaborate with colleagues and suppliers outside the Netherlands. Occasional travel to countries where BauWatch operates is part of the role.
What can you expect from BauWatch?
A professional IT environment
You will work in an international organisation where IT plays a crucial role. Our infrastructure supports not only our employees but also provides an essential foundation for the services we deliver to our customers.
A modern hybrid infrastructure
You will work with a combination of private cloud, public cloud, Microsoft 365, data centre technology, networking and security. We combine our in-house expertise with that of specialised external partners.
Room for responsibility
Within the infrastructure team, you will have your own responsibilities and areas of expertise. You will have the opportunity to propose improvements and implement them together with your colleagues.
International challenges
BauWatch operates across several European countries. This means you will work on challenges that extend beyond a single office or local infrastructure environment.
Collaboration
You will work with experienced IT colleagues and specialised technical partners. We do not expect one person to know everything. Sharing knowledge, collaborating and strengthening one another are important parts of how we work.
We also offer
A one-year contract, with the intention of offering a permanent position thereafter.
A competitive salary, depending on your background and experience.
25 days of annual leave, with the option to purchase additional days.
A good pension scheme.
A lease car, laptop and mobile phone.
Opportunities to further develop your technical skills.
The opportunity to work alongside ambitious IT specialists in an international organisation.
